Racing Games

 Racing Games

Racing games are a video game genre in which the player participates in a racing competition. They may be based on anything from real-world racing leagues to fantastical settings. They are distributed along a spectrum between simulations and simplified arcade-style racing games. Go-kart racing games emerged in the 1990s as a popular sub-genre of the latter. Racing games may also fall under the category of sports games.

Kart racing games have simplified driving mechanics while adding obstacles, unusual track designs and various action elements.[51] Kart racers are also known to cast characters known from various platform games or cartoon television series as the drivers of "wacky" vehicles.[52] Kart racing games are a more arcade-like experience than other racing games and usually offer modes in which player characters can shoot projectiles at one another or collect power-ups.[52][53] Typically, in such games, vehicles move more alike go-karts, lacking anything along the lines of a gear stick and clutch pedal.[51][54]

Crashing Race (1976) was the first game to include car combat. The game was also slower than other racing games of the time due to hardware limitations, prompting the developers to use a go-kart theme for the game. Since then, over 50 kart racing games have been released, featuring characters from Nicktoons to Mario.

Sports Games

Sports Games

sports video game, also known as a sports game, is a video game genre that simulates the practice of sports. Most sports have been recreated with a game, including team sportstrack and fieldextreme sports and combat sports. Some games emphasize actually playing the sport (such as the Madden NFL series), whilst others emphasize strategy and sport management (such as Football Manager and Out of the Park Baseball). Some, such as Need for SpeedArch Rivals and Punch-Out!!, satirize the sport for comic effect. This genre has been popular throughout the history of video games and is competitive, just like real-world sports. A number of game series feature the names and characteristics of real teams and players, and are updated annually to reflect real-world changes. Sports genre is one of the oldest genres in gaming history.

Sports games involve physical and tactical challenges, and test the player's precision and accuracy.[2] Most sports games attempt to model the athletic characteristics required by that sport, including speed, strength, acceleration, accuracy, and so on.[2] As with their respective sports, these games take place in a stadium or arena with clear boundaries.[2] Sports games often provide play-by-play and color commentary through the use of recorded audio.[2]

Sports games sometimes make use of different modes for different parts of the game. This is especially true in games about American football such as the Madden NFL series, where executing a pass play requires six different gameplay modes in the span of approximately 45 seconds.[2] Sometimes, other sports games offer a menu where players may select a strategy while play is temporarily suspended.[2] Association football video games sometimes shift gameplay modes when it is time for the player to attempt a penalty kick, a free shot at goal from the penalty spot, taken by a single player.[2] Some sports games also require players to shift roles between the athletes and the coach or manager. These mode switches are more intuitive than other game genres because they reflect actual sports.
